Our school celebrated Makarsankranti on 15th January 2026 with great joy and happiness. The festival marks the Sun’s transition into Makar Rashi. It is dedicated to the Sun God, Surya.
– Classrooms and bulletin boards were beautifully decorated with colourful kites.
– All children wore black clothes as per tradition.
– Teachers explained the significance of Makarsankranti in simple words.
– Children learnt that the festival is celebrated across India with different names:
Punjab – Lohri, Tamil Nadu – Pongal, Gujarat – Uttarayan, Assam – Bhogali Bihu, Madhya Pradesh – Dahi Chura.
– Students were told about the importance of the Sun for light, warmth, and energy, and customs like holy river baths and kite flying.
– The festival is also a harvest festival celebrated with special foods like til-gul, gulgoli, khichdi, gachak, and undhiyo.
Makarsankranti teaches us sharing and togetherness. ‘तिळगुळ घ्या, गोड गोड बोला’
Tilgul vadi was distributed to all children, and they enjoyed the celebration happily.
